Description:

Lisnacreevy House, 80 Lisnacroppan Road, Rathfriland

History
Encircled by an ancient rath on the top of a drumlin, Lisnacreevy (meaning “fort of the bushes”) is named after the townland in which it is located. It is an eighteenth-century homestead, extended in the early nineteenth century through the addition of a second house, courtyard and barns.

Main House
The main building hence comprises two historic houses, one Georgian and the other Victorian. These are inter-connected on ground floor level. Hence, in the Main House, there are two kitchens, two sets of spacious reception rooms (totalling 4), and two staircases to the first floor. There are in total 7 bedrooms, 3 of which are ensuite; two further family bathrooms; and a third-floor play room with a small study and box room.

Outside
The buildings enjoy an elevated position overlooking the rolling hills of Co. Down and the Mourne mountains. They are situated in approximately 20 acres of land comprising mature and new indigenous species woodland, through which there are maintained walks with seating areas; a mature garden including verandas and a collection of specimen roses; a tarred tennis court; a paddock; goose pens and pig sties associated with the historic farm; a fruit / vegetable garden and c.12 acres of agricultural land.

Courtyard
There is a superb courtyard of stone buildings. Sympathetically maintained and for the most part restored, this comprises stables, a tack room, a byre that has been converted to a large entertainment room with a huge open fire, a further first floor restored barn for hosting weddings and parties, an outside office, a laundry, an outside lavatory, garden stores, and two cart-houses that are now used as garages.

Guest House
The courtyard also contains a separate three-bedroomed guest house with two bathrooms, known to the present owners as “The Pigeon House”. A sympathetic restoration of outstanding quality, this is in pristine condition, having been converted from a two-storied stone barn only three years ago.

Driveways
The property is approached from the road through gated pillars to a tree-lined gravelled driveway, with a second cobbled service entrance to the rear of the house.

Viewing Essential
Prospective purchasers must view this desirable property to fully appreciate its extensive charm, character, and potential. Viewing is by appointment only.
